New Event: Finding Your Photographic Identity
On 18th February, I’ll be running a 2 hour in person workshop at Patch with York Photographers called Finding Your Photographic Identity. It’s a session designed for photographers who want more clarity, intention and connection in their work, regardless of genre or experience level.
Finding Your Photographic Identity is an interactive session focused on understanding the creative foundations behind your work. Rather than looking at trends or aesthetics, the workshop explores how personal experiences, values and influences shape the way we see and photograph the world.
During the session, we’ll work through guided prompts and a creative mind mapping exercise to explore themes such as place, memory, emotion, culture and identity. These ideas often sit quietly beneath our work, influencing what we are drawn to visually without us always noticing.
From there, we’ll look at how those insights can be translated into clear, achievable shoot ideas that feel intentional and meaningful.
The workshop is open to photographers of all genres, including street, landscape, portrait, wedding, fashion and personal work.
Why this workshop matters
Technical skill is only one part of photography. Over time, what helps work stand out and feel cohesive is clarity of perspective.
Understanding your photographic identity can help you make more confident creative decisions, plan shoots with purpose, and develop a body of work that feels connected rather than scattered. It also gives you language to talk about your work, which is just as important as the images themselves.
This session is designed to give photographers practical tools and space to reflect, something that is often missing when we are busy shooting without stepping back.
A community led approach
This workshop is being delivered in collaboration with York Photographers and reflects the group’s focus on learning, inclusivity and peer support. It’s not about comparison or critique, but about shared exploration and discussion in a supportive environment.
I’ll be facilitating the session, guiding the exercises and sharing examples where helpful, but the strength of the workshop comes from collective insight and conversation.
