Editorial Fashion Photography with Bekaka.D

I first met fashion designer Bekaka.D during York Fashion Week. Not long afterwards, Bekaka visited my studio in Leeds alongside my friend & fab photographer Mareks, inviting me to get involved in creating imagery for a selection of his designs.

For the shoot, Bekaka brought together two Nigerian models, Nyan Jok and Ololade, who were scouted specifically for the project. Working in my studio gave us the opportunity to focus on the garments through a series of clean editorial setups, allowing the craftsmanship and silhouettes to take centre stage.

The shoot featured a mix of monochromatic styling, including striking red looks and all-black ensembles. Creative lighting was used throughout to add shape and atmosphere while keeping the attention firmly on the clothing and the models.

What I enjoyed most about this project was the simplicity of the creative direction. Rather than building elaborate sets or relying on heavy props, we kept the focus on the designs themselves.

Fashion photography doesn't always need complicated concepts. Sometimes the strongest images come from giving great clothing, strong models, and thoughtful lighting the space to work together.
