An Italian Summer

While I was in Italy this summer, I managed to squeeze in a quick fashion test shoot with my gorge model and friend, Holly Waterworth in the small Italian town of San Buono, Abruzzo.

We shot these in around half an hour during golden hour, partly because I wanted that warm, directional evening light, and partly because it was simply far too hot to be shooting for much longer!

For this set, I wanted to make the most of the surroundings. San Buono gave us these gorgeous narrow streets, cobbles, old stone walls, doorways and little pockets of light and shadow to work with.

Holly wore a simple white dress with a white silk scarf, which really stood out against the darker stone and warmer tones of the streets. I particularly loved using the stronger contrast between the direct sunlight and deep shadows, which I used to create something a little more dramatic, while still keeping the styling really clean.

We moved around a couple of streets close to where we were staying, following the light and making use of whatever we found along the way. Despite only having around half an hour, we managed to create a set that feels really cohesive and captures both Holly and the location beautifully.
